World Conquest 1.0:©1997 Tactile Systems, Inc. Written by: Michael Krzyzek & Rob Bruce Version Info------------1.0 Initial public release.About-----The game of 'World Conquest' is played on a map of the world consisting of 42 territories which we shall call countries. Up to six players can play together. Countries are assigned either randomly or by rotation. The object of the game is to conquer the world.Initial armies are placed on the board in rotation. Each player will receive a decreasing sequence of armies to place. When the initial deployment phase is finished the game begins. Play goes in rotation. A turn has three parts: placing new armies, attacking, and fortifying.A turn begins with the collection and placement of income earned by countries, continents and card sets. For every three countries owned an additional army of income is earned. For each continent owned extra income depending on the continent is earned. Continent values: Asia: 7 Eruope: 5 North America: 5 Africa: 3 South America: 2 Australia: 2Next, a player may attack any neighboring country. If they succeed they must occupy the new country. Attacking proceeds until a player choses to stop or has no armies left to attack with. Finally, a player may fortify his/her position. Armies can be moved from one adjacent country to another. An army can only be moved once.Play proceeds with the start of the next player's turn. The game ends when one player has conquered all 42 countries.Starting a New Game-------------------To start a new game to tap on the 'New' button. This will open a view that will let you enter player names and patterns. The lines on the left are for the player names. Next to them are the pattern pickers. Tap on the pattern to popup a list of the different patterns. On the right is a picker to determine what type the player is (Human, Neutral, or Computer).Neutral players do not fight. If you play a game with only two players, a neutral player will be added automatically. At the bottom of the 'New Game' view are two pickers. Setup allows you to choose between random country placement and rotation. Card value is how many armies a player receives for turning in cards.Tap the 'Start' button when you're ready to start the game!Computer Players----------------Initially there are no computer players. In the player picker which appears when you hit the 'New Button' there is a player type picker. In this picker, there is an option called 'Edit Comptuers' which will let you edit and add computer players. Choosing this brings you to a view with a line for the Computer name and a pattern picker. Below these are six sliders that let you adjust the compuer player's attributes. Each time you hit new, a computer player is generated with random values for the 6 weights. You can have a maximum of 10 different computer players. Feel free to change the computer names and patterns to whatever you'd like. Here is a short explanation of the 6 Artificial Intelligence weights...Aggressive: Weights fights in favor of those containing the greats disparity between forces. Also favors fights into continents wholly owned by one of their opponents.Cautious: Favors fights which involve taking a country they'd be able to defend easily.Defensive: Discourages fighting with countries which belong to continents they own completely. Helps prevent over extending and leaving them defenseless.Territorial: Favors fights which would help them gain a continent. Does this based strictly on percentages owned. Ei, if you have 55 percent of Asia, and 50 percent of south America, it will fight a bit harder in Asia. Economical: Favors fights for 'worth while countries' this is complete subjective on my part. For instance Asia is worth less than Australia because it's more difficult to hold. This is necessary to offset Territorial's tendency to fight hard for continents it's won't be able to hold.Gangster: Favors fighting countries when they have several countries which could attack them.Placing Armies--------------Whenever you have armies to place on the board they will appear as icons in a floating view. There are icons for 1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50, 99, 199 armies. There are two ways to place armies. You can tap in the countries you want to place armies in and one army will be placed for each tap. Or you can tap on the army icons to hilite them and then tap in the country you want them to go to. All of the hilited armies will be placed in that country. Two special situations occur: When you win a new country, you may be able to place some of the attacking armies in either the new country or the country they attacked from. When you are fortifying your position at the end of a turn, armies may be placed in neighboring countries.Attacking---------You attack FROM a country you own TO an neighboring country which you don't own. Click once in the "FROM" country then in the "TO" country. If you are attacking from the last country you won or the last country you placed armies in then you have only to click in the "TO" country.Remember that you must have armies with which to attack. The number of armies is shown by a boxed number in each country.A country without a boxed number has only one army in it and can't attack other countries. When you conquer a new country with more than three armies you have a choice of leaving some of your attacking armies behind. The armies appear in the placement box and may go in either the country you just won or the country you were attacking from.Fortifying----------At the end of a turn you have the option to fortify your position. If you don't want to fortify just tap the DONE button. Otherwise tap the FORTIFY button.Fortifying allows each attacking army on the board to move to a neighboring country. Being clever about the order in which you move armies lets you set up ripple effects which result in armies moving clear across the board.Click in a country which has unmoved attacking armies. The armies which are free to move appear in the placement box. You can place these armies in any neighboring country.Click the DONE button to end your turn.Cards-----The World Conquest card deck has a card for each country and two jokers. Each card has its own country and an icon, except the jokers which have just three icons. The icons can be a horse, cannon or soldier. Each time you finish a turn in which you win at least one new country you get a card from the deck. You can tap the CARDS button during your turn to see which cards you have. Other players should turn away to avoid peeking. The importance of the cards is that at the beginning of your turn you can turn in a set to receive extra armies. A set is any three cards which have either three different icons or three identical icons. Note that a joker or five cards automatically makes a set. When you turn in a set, you get the number of extra armies indicated by the 'Card Value' option you chose on the "New Game" view, plus two armies in every country you own which appears on one of the cards.Tap the card you want to exchange, and then tap the 'Turn In' button. When you eliminate another player you receive all his/her cards. If this gives you more than four cards, you must immediately turn in a set. When the deck has been exhausted it is shuffled and the game continues.Preferneces-----------The Preferences view allows you to set what sounds play during the game and whether the player order is randomly sorted at the start of the game.Cost----World Conquest costs $25 US. It will run for 7 days and then expire, unless it's paid for.You can register your copy by calling Tactile Systems at 303-841-1114. Or you can go to . Note that this is not a secure server.
